 I have been meaning to write an Actual Post for a while now, but for various reasons ranging from 'life getting in the way' to 'crippling social anxiety', I... haven't. So I guess the first thing to know about me is that I am the most socially awkward person on the planet. Why then am I finally writing this post? Because fandom people are an awesome, supportive bunch, worth being brave for. Hello, lovely people!

If you're reading this post, you probably found me through Biggles. I've written a fair bit for that fandom since I tripped head over heels into it during a very bleak spell in 2019, and I've also posted quite a bit since joining AO3 last November. You can expect more than a few Biggles-related posts, and probably an exchange letter or ten (AO3 fic exchanges are addictive; can confirm.) I'm also Rietta89 over there if you feel the urge to scope out my fic or get sucked into an exchange 😉

Biggles is my main fandom at the moment, but I am always ready to babble enthusiastically about Enid Blyton, The Chalet School, Doctor Who, and vintage detective literature, so be prepared for the occasional post about those to slip in.

What else am I likely to post about? Books I'm reading; things I'm watching; music I'm listening to. Occasionally places I've been, but I am a self-confessed homebody, so those probably won't occur often. I also enjoy crafting in the spare time I have left between writing, sleeping, working, and being a slave to my dog, so expect a few craft photos too.

Hello and welcome!

While I’ve known some of the books since childhood, I also tripped and fell headlong into the series as a fandom when life was being difficult a couple of years ago, there’s something very comforting about the books, I think.

I totally agree about the comfort level; I actually had precisely one of the books (Investigates) as a child and loved it, and it was comfort-reading that which caused me to fall into the fandom. I remember finishing it and thinking, "he wrote a few more of these, didn't he?" I wasn't quite expecting 'a few' to be nearly a hundred! 😂

There's nothing like a welcoming fandom, and it's especially nice when one comes along at a bad time and pulls one out of a funk.

I so feel you on the social anxiety front. I have Agoraphobia, so my ability to be social in RL is even worse than online. So is my ability to make my chronically achy body cooperate, but even when it doesn't, I try to get words out of it. AO3 exchanges are decidedly addictive!

Biggles is wonderful, and I'm very much a fan of Enid Blyton and vintage detective literature too. :)

Oh, agoraphobia must be awful; you have my utmost sympathy!

Enid Blyton is my peak comfort reading; I will still be rereading the Adventure series annually when I'm ninety 💕

It's quite a pain when I absolutely do have to leave the house, because that spells anything from intense anxiety to a full blown panic attack. If I don't have to go anywhere, I'm quite happy.

Oh, same here with the Enid Blyton comfort reading, except that for me, it's the Famous Five. :D
